Office Cleaning Checklist

Aug 6, 2020

Your office may already be open, or re-opening in the near future. How can you make sure you’re ready? We have compiled an office cleaning checklist for you to follow as you implement new procedures for employees going back to work. In conjunction with regular electrostatic disinfecting, you’ll be able to provide the safest possible environment for your staff.

Define Your Process

We discussed the risks of cross contamination in this post, and how process makes a huge difference in overall results. It is imperative that you take the time to define a clear routine for daily cleaning and disinfecting. Regular cleaning offers health and wellness benefits beyond during times of pandemic. Use this as an opportunity to develop a solid system. Make a list of tasks, label tools and solutions, and stick to a consistent order of cleaning for best results.

Use The Right Tools

Gather proper equipment to ensure you have everything on hand to complete your new routine. Here’s what you’ll need for a daily clean of commonly used surfaces and equipment:

  • Gloves
  • Microfiber cloths
  • Cleaning solution
  • Spray bottles
  • Labels
  • Trash bags
  • Checklist

Clean The Right Things

For your office cleaning checklist, create a list of areas that need to be cleaned so that nothing gets missed. Think about how people move around the office, high traffic areas, and communal spaces. Are there any shared pieces of equipment? Go room by room and make a list for each space of things that need to be wiped down daily. For example:

Reception Areas

  • Front door handles
  • Items on the desk like guest sign in areas, pens/pencils, staplers, etc.
  • Digital touchscreens and keypads, credit card readers
  • Elevator buttons
  • Seating and side tables, if possible – aim for wipeable materials for furniture in these spaces
  • Bottles of hand sanitizer

Once you have made a checklist for each space, you’ll be able to provide that to your cleaning crew. Checking items off the list is a good way to ensure everything gets cleaned, even if different people are doing it each time.

Use Signs

When creating new habits, signs are critical to remind people of new policies and procedures. Though you may already have signs revolving around hygiene like handwashing, it might be beneficial to increase the amount. You can also use signs to designate the storage of supplies like soap, hand sanitizer, masks, or other items that are used frequently and may need to be replaced throughout the day. Encourage daily wipe downs of personal workstations with a checklist sign at each desk to clean:

  • Phone
  • Computer, keyboard, mouse, mouse pad, etc.
  • Desk surface
  • Desk accessories
  • Chair frame

With proper signage, everyone will be on the same page at how to maintain a clean, sanitary environment. Whether you choose the added protection that a disinfecting electrostatic spray service can offer, if you follow this checklist you’ll be well on your way to creating a safer, healthier workplace. At Virus Assassins, your safety is our top priority. We can help you achieve the most sanitary environment possible for your office.
