Unless your bottles are clearly labeled, accidents can happen. In addition to labeling, color coding can help you keep your tools and solutions separate. The British Institute of Cleaning Science offers a standardized color chart that you may choose to implement in your office. This type of color coding and labeling is an excellent practice for cleaning and disinfecting any time, but especially now as we work to curb the spread of COVID-19.
Invest In Quality Tools
If your cleaning tools are worn, broken, or ineffective, consider upgrading before re-opening your office. Microfiber cloths, for example, actually help attract particles and trap them. Using microfiber cloths instead of cotton or terry can reduce the likelihood that you are spreading the germs around as you wipe. As a result, it also reduces the potential for cross contamination at the office. Microfiber cloths come in a wide variety of colors and can last for years. The material works well for wiping cloths as well as wet mop material.
Most professional cleaning companies already do this, but it’s worth mentioning. As you wipe down surfaces, dust and particles that are not picked up initially will fall to the floor. Following the wipe down, disinfect the surfaces and allow to dry. Finally, vacuum and mop the floors. Cleaning the floor last allows you to collect anything remaining without re-contaminating the surfaces you have already cleaned and disinfected.
One of the best ways to avoid cross contamination at the office is to actually assign different people to clean and disinfect specific areas. This way, tools are not being transferred from the bathrooms to the kitchens.
